K-12 School Adoption
uplift an island sustainably.
In 2017, in the aftermath of Hurricane María, IslandCorps adopted its first K-12 rural elementary school on the west side of Puerto Rico. As of January 2023, IslandCorps has provided $150,000 in in-kind donations for school equipment to their eight adopted public schools. We have served as a bridge of needs for the most vulnerable children and hardest-working teachers.
What does school adoption mean?
Our education corps, first responders, and volunteers work with teachers, parents, and administrators to form an engaged school community. Through project-based learning and pediatric health education events, we beautify, improve, and bridge educational gaps students in Puerto Rico’s public schools face.
